Migrate from Oracle Rdb to Mimer SQL on OpenVMS x86

The latest version of Mimer SQL for OpenVMS has the ability with to move a complete application, source code and database, all the way from Oracle Rdb on Itanium to Mimer SQL on x86, with a minimum of effort.

Mimer Information Technology AB offers a migration toolkit which allows a user to

  • Export an Oracle Rdb database schema and contents in a format suitable for import
  • Translate this schema into an equivalent Mimer SQL version
  • Prepare the Mimer SQL server, using this schema
  • Import all data
  • Translate source code files with embedded SQL from the original COBOL or Fortran source code to new files that can be processed with the Mimer SQL embedded SQL tools and then compiled

The upshot is that migration can be done in-place on Itanium hardware and then moved to x86, thus dramatically reducing the risk in a migration project. A stepwise and controlled migration at your pace and with your resources where every step is isolated and identified, with no surprises and no risks — once your application is migrated on Itanium, moving to x86 is a matter of copying the database files and recompiling the code in exactly the same environment. Nothing more.

There is more information about this procedure on the Mimer Developer’s site, and access to this migration toolkit is granted after contacting us at info@mimer.com, or using the contact form on this site.
