  • Breaking New Ground with Agentic AI SQL Translation

Back in May, we unveiled our prototype tool for translating Oracle SQL to Mimer SQL — and the response has been fantastic. What sets this solution apart is its use of AI-powered agents, working in concert to understand, restructure, and refine SQL code with a level of precision and adaptability that traditional static tools simply can’t match.

This isn’t just another migration script. It’s a bleeding-edge orchestration of specialized agents, each trained to handle different facets of SQL translation — from syntax alignment to semantic adjustments — ensuring results that are both technically sound and readable. The agent-based architecture also means the system can learnadapt, and improve over time as it encounters new patterns and constructs.

We’re pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in database migration, combining Mimer’s deep domain expertise with the flexibility of AI. This is about more than just converting code — it’s about enabling smooth, confident transitions to Mimer SQL with a tool that’s future-proof by design.

Take a look below at a screenshot from one of our translation sessions, where you can see the process in action.

  • Migrate from Oracle Rdb to Mimer SQL on OpenVMS x86

The latest version of Mimer SQL for OpenVMS has the ability with to move a complete application, source code and database, all the way from Oracle Rdb on Itanium to Mimer SQL on x86, with a minimum of effort.

Mimer Information Technology AB offers a migration toolkit which allows a user to

    • Export an Oracle Rdb database schema and contents in a format suitable for import
    • Translate this schema into an equivalent Mimer SQL version
    • Prepare the Mimer SQL server, using this schema
    • Import all data
    • Translate source code files with embedded SQL from the original COBOL or Fortran source code to new files that can be processed with the Mimer SQL embedded SQL tools and then compiled

The upshot is that migration can be done in-place on Itanium hardware and then moved to x86, thus dramatically reducing the risk in a migration project. A stepwise and controlled migration at your pace and with your resources where every step is isolated and identified, with no surprises and no risks — once your application is migrated on Itanium, moving to x86 is a matter of copying the database files and recompiling the code in exactly the same environment. Nothing more.

There is more information about this procedure on the Mimer Developer’s site, and access to this migration toolkit is granted after contacting us at info@mimer.com, or using the contact form on this site.

  • Mimer and Trustonic release ‘Mimer Trust’ for commercial deployment

The Swedish database company Mimer, together with pioneering cyber security business Trustonic, have announced the commercial release of ‘Mimer Trust’.

Mimer Trust, a product that successfully combines the strengths om Mimer’s Mimer SQL database and the secure platform Kinibi from Trustonic, was born out of a collaboration that started in 2022. Later that year we announced version 2.0 of this product, with countless improvements on APIs, performance, memory overhead, etc., and that is now commercially available.

Mimer Trust is uniquely positioned to solve the problems and the complex challenges that today’s OEMs face with data security. Mimer Trust can effectively connect and protect connected device data to comply with GDPR and wider legislation, in a manner without compromising performance or user experience.

  • AWS on Mimer in AWS

Michael Spence, Senior Solutions Architect at AWS, has published a very interesting blog post about running Mimer SQL in AWS.

In this article he uses Mimer SQL to demonstrate how to migrate an Oracle Rdb database to Amazon Web Services (AWS), as well as application source code. Michael points out that customers with Oracle Rdb workloads in need for such a migration will find that Mimer SQL provides such a solution and goes on to explain how this is done and how easy that is.

    https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/migration-and-modernization/openvms-x86-database-modernization-with-mimer-sql-and-amazon-ec2

The key take-away is how easy it is to set up Mimer SQL on any platform (Linux, Windows, macOS, etc.) using AWS. Mr. Spence uses the binary compatibility of Mimer SQL to move a database from one instance in AWS to another, where they run on totally different operating systems but still are able to seamlessly and effortlessly use the same physical files.

  • AI tool for migration to Mimer SQL

Mimer unveiled the latest in migration tools at the OpenVMS Bootcamp in Malmö on May 14.

At the bootcamp Mimer demonstrated a custom application that builds on cutting edge AI technology to help translation from Oracle PL/SQL to Mimer. The application use the extensive documentation that comes with Mimer SQL and autonomously builds and verifies a query that has the same functionality as the PL/SQL one — i.e., it can build a query that is functionally equivalent, even though it is not semantically equivalent due to differences in SQL implementation.

If you would like to know more, or would like a demonstration, please use the contact form and we will get back to you.

  • EuroStack — A European Alternative for Digital Sovereignty

Mimer has joined the non-lobby movement EuroStack to help push the European Parliament and Commission to create a digital resiliency and work for a Europe focused digital infrastructure.

“Europe needs to recover the initiative, and become more technologically independent across all layers of its critical digital infrastructure”, as it reads in the Open Letter to President Von Der Leyen and Executive Vice-President Virkkunen, and we strongly recommend anyone interested in this project to read that letter, as well as the information provided in EuroStack’s pitch PDF.

  • OpenVMS Bootcamp

VMS Software is hosting an OpenVMS Bootcamp on May 13 to 15. The Bootcamp is a recurring and very popular event for OpenVMS professionals from all over the world, and this time it is in Malmö, Sweden.

Mimer is proud to announce that we have been awarded two sessions during these three flat filled days. The first session is presented by Bengt Gunne, Mimer CTO, on the topic “Mimer SQL on OpenVMS“, and the second is by Karl-König Königsson, Product Manager, on the topic “Migration from Oracle Rdb to Mimer SQL“.

The first talk will focus on the capabilities of the Mimer SQL and how well integrated these are in the world of OpenVMS, and the second will focus on the unique features and possibilities in the latest version of Mimer SQL and how those provide a smooth transition from the aging technology of Oracle Rdb, tied to legacy hardware, to what is probably the most modern database in the world and into the future of OpenVMS.

With these two presentations on the agenda, Mimer Information Technology cements the company’s decades long dedication to the OpenVMS platform and takes the steps into the future of OpenVMS on x86-64.

  • White House protection included

Mimer SQL is made in the EU and stays in the EU

A security-conscious architecture is not just about data. The same strategic thinking that governs how sensitive data should be stored should also apply to your choice of underlying technologies.

Mimer SQL, one of the world’s most renowned database management systems — famous for its reliability and portability — is designed, built, and maintained in Sweden by a tightly knit team of engineers with hundreds of years of combined database experience. Since every line of code is written in-house, with no dependencies on third-party code, our intellectual property remains impervious to non-EU export restrictions and is therefore safe from potential technical embargoes.

Mimer SQL is not only probably the world’s most efficient database management system—it also comes with White House protection included.

    How’s that for resilience?
